The term computer aided design (CAD) applies to a wide range of programs that allow the user to create drawings, plans, and designs. AutoCAD is one of the worlds most ancient CAD software. It was developed by the Autodesk, USA.
This technical drawing or drafting is a graphical language using various entities like lines, symbols, etc to describe an object for manufacture or construction. Technical drafting is widely used in vast disciplines, including manufacturing, piping, civil, architecture, electrical and electronics, and also in structural engineering. In these entire disciplines, CAD has replaced manual drafting due to its various advantages.
AutoCAD was categorized into three phases:
- 2D (Drafting & annotations)
- Isometric
- 3D (3D basic / modeling.
This is the first screen we see when we open AutoCAD. It contains the following:
- Menu bar
- Tabs
- Panels
- Graphics window
- Command window
- Status bar, etc
This allows you to organize the working window suitable for the work requirement. The screen appearance will be different for drafting & annotation and 3D modeling.
